Runway Inspired Challenge #26 Bibhu Mohapatra

 I just saw this GORGEOUS inspiration photo over at Runway Inspired and swooned over the colors!  Isn't this designer FABULOUS?!  I immediately knew how I wanted to construct my card and what elements I wanted to use.  *EDITED - I WON THE FABULOUS FASHIONISTA FOR MY CARD*

 I pulled out my alcohol inks (stonewashed, lettuce, and willow) and glossy white cardstock and just dripped, dabbed, and pounced until I got the desired look.

Next, I took this Hero Arts stamp, Tall Flowers, a very Indian-inspired image, and stamped it in Midnight Blue Stazon ink. I just HAD to add a little bling by Hero Arts for the beautiful shine seen in the silk dress.

I finished off the card with a beautiful lemongrass satin ribbon to emulate the fabric on the dress bottom.  I added this SRM sticker, given to me by a very special friend.  I thought it was SO appropriate!

I loved this inspiration photo so much, I decided to create another card!  This time is used a Memory Box Floral Square die glazed with Glossy Accents.  For the curve of the dress, I used a Spellbinders Reverse Wonky die on some MME papers.  For the dress bottom, this time I used Webster's Pages Fabric Roses.  I finished it off with a Hero Arts XO stamp inked with the Stazon Midnight Blue, but on vellum with some pearls.

This is My Song

There are a few things I like to call my "favorites" when it comes to what inspires me.  An odd little list, but mine just the same.  Music, birds, the colors pink and yellow, an elegant touch of black, ribbons, flowers, and vintage finds.  Remember the Sound of Music and These Are a Few of My Favorite Things?

Such is the card I made this week for our challenge at Our Creative Corner, using a few things from my list. Our hostess, Liliana Inguanti of Stitching and Fabrics asks us to create a project using fabrics and some stitching. You can use the fabrics in any part of your card, either as a flower, a small embellishment, or whatever you want. The stitching can be either faux stitching or machine stitching. Please specify where you used your fabric if it is not noticeable in the project.

Here is my design team card for some inspiration.  I decided to take a well-needed break from Christmas cardmaking!

   

I found this image on Pinterest and printed it out on sticky back canvas - that is my fabric piece.  In real life, there are faint areas of music.  I painted the leaves of the image with Glossy Accents and brightened up the sweet finch a bit with yellow Copics. I took a piece of silk ribbon, attached a pale pink flower to it and then attached the image to a piece of pink cardstock.  I stitched that to a black card.

Christmas Sparkle

A couple of challenges I want to enter require silver and gold, baubles and beads.  Is this not every girl's papercrafter's dream??  Well, it is for me and I couldn't WAIT to get into my studio!

For the first challenge, Moxie Fab World's Tuesday Trigger Shimmer and Shine sent me over the moon!  How dreamy is this inspiration photo?  LOVE it!

The second challenge is Jay Gee's Nook #26.  They have given us an inspiration board like no other!  Between these two challenges and the inspiration provided by the fabulous design teams, I had no problem coming up with my card.

A VERY Bright Christmas!

When I hear the word NEON, Christmas is not something I would associate it with! A vintage Christmas, maybe retro, Victorian, and traditional, but not NEON.

Well, leave it to Cath at Moxie Fab World to think up the "Kean on Neon Challenge" for us utilizing this  fabulous new trend!  Here is my submission, but check out their blog to see the inspiration she's provided.

I started with a new embossing folder from QuicKutz called Woven on white Hero Arts cardstock.  I took Distress Stains Mowed Lawn and Salty Ocean, and swiped them over the texture of the embossed paper.  I then sprayed the piece with Glimmer Mist for a watercolor effect.

For the trees, on a piece of vellum, I used the Hero Arts stamp set Merry Christmas Trees and wet embossed them in silver.  I cut them out and adhered to the stained piece.  I had some pretty gems I used for the tree toppers.

Now I knew I wanted to use my Hero Arts Neon ink, but I wasn't sure how.  I had left a good-sized margin around the embossed piece, so I took the opportunity to use a simple Hero Arts sentiment from the Holiday Sayings set and stamp around the perimeter.  I LOVED it!  I just finished it off with a piece of neon cardstock from Recollections.

I don't think this will be the only card I enter!  I HEART these colors!  It makes Christmas cardmaking fun, colorful, and child-like.  Thanks Cath, and everyone at Moxie Fab World!

Challenge ABC

It seems like it's been forever since I posted!  Thanksgiving is now over and I can't believe it!  Where did the time go?  After all the cooking, eating, and a full house, it was nice to get back in the studio and make a card.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the challenge at Our Creative Corner this week! Irena Kowalczyk (aka Rudlis) of Love, Life and Crafts is our hostess and she got really creative with this one!  The ABC Challenge is A is for Angel, B is for Button, and C is for Chipboard! 

Here is my design team card for some ideas.      

 I had a beautiful download from Silhouette Studio of an angel and knew it would be perfect for this challenge.  I dry embossed it for some texture. My chipboard element came to me when I was looking through my Christmas embellishments and found this gorgeous star.  It all came together but I had no idea where I would put a button.  With a little rearranging and a couple of different colors, I found THE one!

O Christmas Tree

Last night, my DH came home with a surprise for me. For those who know me, it's not so unique, but VERY sweet and thoughtful.  It was two glass vials of plump vanilla beans!  He saw I was running low on my homemade vanilla, thus the beans.  I heart that man! 

It's been a busy week and I actually managed to get some holiday cooking done along with a few cards.  I've been procrastinating making Christmas cards, but after several rounds on Pinterest and a little shopping, mojo came home to me!

This week at Our Creative Corner, our fabulous hostess is Sue Butler of Scrumplescrunch and she has one awesome challenge for us.  She asks that we create a background without using any patterned paper.  If you check out her blog, she has a tutorial on how she created hers.

Here is my design team card for some inspiration.  I created mock paper mache using tissue paper, glue, and an embossing folder.

I first dry embossed the Christmas folder onto a piece of blue cardstock.  I inked it up with VersaMark and sprinkled with sticky embossing powder.  Then I heat set it, leaving it sticky enough to cover it with a piece of crumbled white tissue paper.  I ran it through my Big Shot again with the folder.  I took thinned out white glue and brushed the piece all over.  Then I heat set it again and when dry, I sprayed with Glimmer Mist.  It feels exactly like a piece of paper mache!

For the tree, I die cut it using dark green paper. I used a VersaMark pen and randomly covered the tree with it then sprinkled on white embossing powder.  I brushed it off in some spots to give it a more natural snowy look.  I heat set it and then, while still hot, I sprinkled the glitter over it.  I finished with a little more heat set. For more sparkle, I dabbed on the liquid Stickles in a few areas.  Unfortunately, you can only see it in the close up photo, but it SHINES beautifully!

To finish off the card, I took a white pigment pen and dotted more of the dark green paper to make it look like snow is falling.  I just love the colors together.  Finally, I made a tag for the sentiment, used some twine and added a little pearl to it.  I must say, I'm pretty happy with the results.

"MASKING" for Halloween!

WOO HOO - I get to host this week at Our Creative Corner and I have a FAB challenge planned for you! 

In the "spirit" AND theme of Halloween, we will be using the MASKING technique! HERE is a wonderful link for some inspiration. Show us your scariest creation using this technique!

Here is my design team card. I'm sorry about the photography, but for some reason the background looks brown and not the black it really is. I tried to adjust it MANY times, sigh.......

I chose a piece of text paper in black and white because text takes masking and wet embossing so well.  I chose a creepy sentiment stamp and embossed it in cricket green.  I cut out a piece of paper to make my own mask to cover the sentiment and then placed the Studio Calico graph mask over that.  I sponged the Black Soot distress ink over the graph, removed both masks, and voila!  I got a nice, clean sentiment that looked like it was floating on top of a spider web!  Of course I had to add the spider for effect!

Next, I embossed the street lamp in black and finished off with some wonky black stitching.  I love how it came out and in real life looks much better in black than brown!
