Papertrey Ink August Blog Hop and Moxie Fab World Movement Challenge

WOW, this was the fastest card I think I've ever made!  I was in my studio today, making a card for my design team when my mojo took a turn.  I decided to take a break and hopped on my laptop.  Oooo - I saw the Papertrey Ink Blog Hop and was instantly inspired - right up my alley!  This will be my very first one I've entered and will NOT be my last!
Nichole has given us a lot for inspiration.  She says, "This month's inspiration is all about autumn patterns, textures & textiles.  Think warm & cozy woolens, houndstooth, tweed, burlap, felt, corduroy. herringbone and even argyle.  You can create your own custom patterns & textures with stamps or impression plates.  Or you can incorporate actual fabrics, felt, yarn and other textiles in a creative way."

I think I was able to accomplish that in my card.  I used herringbone and plaid, gave texture with wet and dry embossing, used burlap, twine and a bow made out of seam binding.  I even stamped a coppery Fall sentiment on the "harvest moon!"
And I am also entering this in the Moxie Fab World Movement Challenge. I started out with a focal point (the embossed Fall definition) and moved on to the leaves and ribbon.  Going down to the bottom leaf and then the burlap, back up to the sentiment, your eye goes full circle.  This was such a wonderful lesson.  I had initially wanted to enter the Focal Point Challenge, but DH and I decided the card has more movement than a fixed focal point.  He's so smart!

Cath at Moxie Fab World has a series of lesson challenges planned and you can find more in this fabulous special issue of the Card Design Handbook.  I can't wait to get my hands on a copy!
Thanks so much for visiting my blog and I would love it if you leave me a comment!

Bon Voyage!

This week at Our Creative Corner, our challenge comes from the uber talented, Kim Price of InkognitoShe has REALLY asked us to stretch our imagination and use bits and pieces we have floating around that belong in the office - Staples, Post-it Notes, String, Sticky Tape - the list goes on!  Use your imagination and come up with a fabulous creation using these common items. BUT! And here's the twist, Kim wants to see the color RED. Lots and lots of RED! Go bold with your fabulous designs!  Neutral colors are allowed - black, white, cream, kraft, grey and browns, but your card must feature the color RED.
Here is my design team card for some inspiration.  If you can't find the red, well.......I promise it's there!  I used sticky reinforcements and string as the office supplies part of the challenge, but I wasn't happy with how it came out, so re-shot the photo for my blog post.  The original photo is on the OCC blog. I used Hero Arts Floral Vine for the background because I felt it looked like kelp, using shadow inks.
I'm entering this card in the CAS-ual Fridays CFC66 Challenge - Splish Splash.  They ask that we create a project featuring something that you might see in or at the ocean.  How FUN!  I don't think you'd miss my little swimmer in the ocean!  He's very 3D - like he's going to jump off the page!
Please drop by Our Creative Corner and join in on our challenge.  Also, check out the awesome projects from the FAB design team - they are amazing!

Moxie FABulous Minty Fresh Challenge!

Would you believe this is my first time entering a Moxie Fab World Challenge?!  I guess I never felt my style was CAS enough compared to other entries I've seen.  I know, silly, huh?  The Minty Fresh Challenge made me swoon SO much, I just had to give it a go!  Such a retro color, I remember it from my childhood.  And with that retro feel, I knew the elements I was going to use.

I chose this gorgeous background stamp from Hero Arts and embossed it in white. With the mint, I thought a punch of red was in order and what better than hearts and gingham - kind of like a pretty apron.  In search of a sentiment, I chose one from Hero Arts that was originally framed, but I masked the frame out.
For the hearts, I took pieces from three different stamp sets and layered some, glazed some and embossed some.  The finishing touch were the two little pearl hearts from Hero Arts.  I REALLY wanted to keep going, but this is about as CAS as I have ever gotten and quit while I was ahead!  I can tell you that the color is very bright and aqua-looking in these photos, but IRL it's a light minty green.

I know I'll be entering more challenges over at Moxie Fab!  They always have a great collection of challenges to enter and a wonderful design team to be inspired by when your mojo has taken a break!

So You Think You Can Sketch?

I don't know why I don't use sketches more often.  I used to when I first started cardmaking but I got away from it.  Well, I'm back with a fabulous sketch I followed from Freshly Made Sketches.  I'll be entering their challenge for the first time - I feel my style is a great fit! EDITED TO ADD THAT I WAS SELECTED AS ONE OF THE "PERFECT PRINCESSES" BY JEN FROM FRESHLY MADE SKETCHES FOR THIS CHALLENGE!

And I always feel my style fits in with my design team at Our Creative Corner!  What an amazing new group of teamies I have - so creative and WICKED talented! (That's the Boston in me coming out!)  This week, once again the uber talented Paula McClane from Scrap Addicts Attic is our hostess and boy does she have a challenge for us!
Here is my design team card for some inspiration!  I LOVE denim!
I made my flower brads out of some jeans and canvas I cut up!  It's two separate brads plus the Basic Grey brad.  Took some time after cutting them out on my Big Shot Pro, but I'm pleased with how it came out.
Please drop by Our Creative Corner and join in on our challenge.  Also, check out the awesome projects from the new design team - they are amazing!

You Are My Sunshine!

This week at Our Creative Corner, our hostess is Paula McClane from Scrap Addicts Attic, one of the newbies to the Design Team!  She has a fabulous challenge she calls, "Bling Bling."  We are to use our most shiny and sparkly products and make it dazzle! Use rhinestones, Stickles, glitter, etc along with items found in nature (plants, animals, etc)!

Here is my design team card for some inspiration.  Be careful, you may need sunglasses!
I don't typically use a lot of bling, so I needed to chose my elements of  "shiny and sparkly." What could be more bright and shiny than NEON?!  I've had these gorgeous Hero Arts Neon Inks for a while and wanted to showcase them in a card.  In nature, would you see a neon flower - I don't know, but I just had to make one here!

I remember reading that neon (a true chemical element of gas found in nature) lasts longer and brighter when used on glossy paper.  So I used the Many Dots stamp in three colors plus black, randomly on the paper and then die cut the four circles.  I used the Envelope Liner bg stamp, inked in the three neon colors, for the flower and the sentiment.

One place I get a lot of inspiration from is Pinterest.  I found this gorgeous card layout from Melissa Frances HERE, that I somewhat CASED, with a few additions. I placed the flower off center to balance the black  "leaves" and the twine.  I finished it off by putting a glossy brad in the center, layering foam dots between the layers to give it depth, and bordering it in black.

For the sentiment, I used a chevron embossing folder on black cardstock and cut out the pattern on the top and bottom. I thought it would be a fun element for the card.
